Assistant Sales Manager
Reports to: Director of Inside Sales

Job Summary
The Assistant Sales Manager plays a key leadership role in driving sales growth and building high performance inside sales organization. This individual partner along with the Director of Inside Sales to set directions, lead daily operations, and coach the sales team to achieve ambitious revenue goals. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, data-driven, and motivated to modernize how we engage with independent retailers across phone, email, CRM, and online platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Leadership & Coaching
  • Lead, motivate, and coach a team of Prospectors, Account Managers, and Lead Generators to consistently exceed sales targets.
  • Deliver regular one-on-one and team coaching sessions that are informed by data and focused on skill development, accountability, and results.
  • Foster a culture of high energy, integrity, and winning together.
  • Sales Operations & Execution
  • Partner with the Director of Inside Sales to oversee daily operations and ensure consistent team performance.
  • Manage performance against KPIs such as call activity, conversion rates, net booked sales, and customer retention.
  • Be hands-on in the sales process — able to step in, model best practices, and close business directly when needed.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making
  • Use dashboards, reports, and CRM analytics to identify trends, coach reps, and make proactive business decisions.
  • Translate performance metrics into actionable strategies that drive sales growth and profitability.
  • Continuously refine processes based on insights from HubSpot, SAP, and other reporting tools.
  • Technology & Systems
  • Champion the adoption of HubSpot CRM and help integrate it with SAP as we modernize our sales stack.
  • Ensure the sales team is fully leveraging technology to manage pipelines, improve productivity, and strengthen customer relationships.
  • Talent Development & Culture
  • Attract, recruit, and develop top sales talent to build a high-performing, motivated team.
  • Drive onboarding and training programs that set new hires up for success and reinforce a culture of accountability.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in sales strategies, messaging, and customer engagement.
  • Market & Customer Insight
  • Bring knowledge of selling independent gifts, stationery, impulse, candy, or specialty retail channels.
  • Provide market feedback and competitor insights to inform sales strategy, product development, and marketing campaigns.
  • Partner closely with Marketing and Field Sales to align promotions, campaigns, and customer engagement initiatives.

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Proven inside sales leadership experience, with success managing phone/email-based teams.
  • Entrepreneurial and aggressive mindset — driven to achieve ambitious growth goals.
  • Strong ability to read reports, dashboards, and KPIs to make data-driven coaching and business decisions.
  • Hands-on experience with HubSpot CRM (or similar) and comfort with SAP or other ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to inspire a team and build trust with independent retailers.
  • High energy, resilience, and the ability to balance strategic vision with tactical execution.
  • Experience in the gift, stationery, candy, impulse, or specialty retail categories strongly preferred.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 4+ years of successful B2B sales experience, with at least 2 years in a sales leadership or coaching role.
  • Experience in industries selling to small independent retailers is highly desirable.
