Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate candidate to assist in leading, inspiring, and guiding a cohesive team. The Meat & Seafood Department Assistant Team Lead assists in the planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the operations of the department. The ideal candidate must be willing to develop their leadership skills so that they may Supervise, direct, and coordinate the activities of Team Members who prepare, portion, package, and display meat & seafood products, and assure that all objectives and goals of the department and store, as communicated by the Department Lead, Market Manager, and leadership team, are met or exceeded. You will ensure a positive company image by providing legendary customer service and exceptional leadership!

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Estimating and assisting in ordering products and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining records of stock, repairs, sales, and wastage.
  • Follow Sunterra Standardized Recipes and all other related Sunterra Policies
  • Ensure that products and customer service meet Sunterra quality standards.
  • As part of development may participate in the selection of new Team Members and assist in the development of policies, procedures, and budgets.
  • Assist in controlling and maintaining records of inventory, monitor product cost, and inform management.
  • Train in resolving customer complaints and ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
  • Train in waste bin execution.
  • Train to follow and monitor sanitary checklists and temperature log sheets.
  • Train in health and safety procedures.
  • Inspect, and store meat & seafood in cooler and train in complete cooker checks.
  • Assist in meat cutting duties, including:

o Cut, debone, or grind pieces of meat, poultry, and fish.

o Cut and trim meat from larger, wholesale portions into steaks, chops, roasts, and other cuts.

  • Weigh, wrap, and display meat & seafood products.
  • Cut or prepare meats/seafood to specification or customers’ orders.
  • Store meats in refrigerators or freezers at the required temperature.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Team lead, Assistant Managers and Market Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented
  • Can-do Mentality
  • Good communicator and able to work well with others and convey enthusiasm.
  • Is available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department
  • An ability to lift or carry items up to 40 pounds
  • A passion for food
  • Meat department experience in a retail setting asset OR
  • Charcuterie/Meat Cutting Certification or culinary focused post-secondary asset
  • Post Secondary Culinary training considered an asset
  • WHIMS certification requirement (Sunterra will provide online training)
  • Food Safety certification requirement (Sunterra will provide online training)

Working Conditions:

  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Some exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions.
  • Caution while working with meat cutters and machinery and sharp knives.
  • May walk and work on uneven surfaces.
  • Requires some reaching above and below shoulder height.
  • Repetitive use of hands with power grasping and fine manipulation.
