ABOUT TEGNA

TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.
WTLV/WJXX-TV, the TEGNA-owned ABC/NBC affiliate in Jacksonville, is looking for a strategic, driven, and collaborative Assistant News Director to help lead our newsroom. This is a key leadership position for someone who is passionate about impactful, people-first journalism and thrives in a fast-paced, high-performing newsroom.
The ideal candidate is a newsroom veteran who understands how to lead with clarity during breaking news, energizes a team with innovative daily content strategies, and elevate storytelling across platforms. You’ve been in the control room, made tough calls, and know what it takes to deliver meaningful coverage in moments that matter most. You are a creative thinker who knows how to coach producers, motivate reporters, and help anchors connect with the audience.
Each day, you’ll work alongside the News Director and executive team to shape our editorial strategy, develop our people, and grow our audience. You’ll bring a deep understanding of what drives local news viewers—solutions journalism, safety, transportation, affordability, and neighborhood issues—and a desire to serve Jacksonville with excellence. If you’re passionate about newsroom culture, performance, mentorship, and teamwork, this could be the right fit for you.
