Position Description
The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).

As a Clinician-Teacher, the candidate will dedicate 15-25% of their time on teaching activities with 50-70% of their time dedicated to clinical duties and the rest to administration.
As a Clinician-Educator, the candidate will be expected to spend 30-50% of their time dedicated to education program development and/or education research/administration, 15-25% on teaching, and 30-40% on clinical duties.
Clinical responsibilities will include attending on the general cardiology consult service and coronary care unit; heart failure service; reading/performing echocardiograms including trans-esophageal and three-dimensional; starting and leading a cardiomyopathy clinic for phenotyping, genotyping and treatment of hypertrophic, arrhythmogenic, and dilated cardiomyopathies. You will also be responsible for performing endomyocardial biopsies as required.
The candidate should have training in both echocardiography and advanced heart failure with a specific academic focus in genotyping and phenotyping of cardiomyopathies. The advanced heart failure program at MUHC is a quaternary service with a heart failure service, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical ventricular support. We also have a Family Heart Centre dedicated to genetic heart disease.
The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
- Hold an MD degree, hold or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
- Have completed specialty training in Cardiology along with sub-specialty training in Echocardiography, Heart Failure, and specific Cardiomyopathy training;
- Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Cardiology;
- Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
- Have completed Echocardiography training at a minimum of level III and include expertise in trans-esophageal echocardiography, three-dimensional echo, stress echo, expertise in advanced techniques such as strain;
- Have completed Cardiomyopathy training, including counselling, managing, genotyping, and phenotyping of specific cardiomyopathies such as hypertrophic, arrhythmogenic, and dilated;
- Have completed a master’s degree in education or demonstrate a commitment to education by completing Master’s training in education in the first two years of appointment;
- Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
