Position Description
The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Investigator or a Clinician-Scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Jewish General Hospital (JGH) is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
The McGill Division of Hematology is highly committed to the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, research, innovation and education. Its mission includes strategic recruitment of outstanding subspecialists committed to academic medicine. The Division has a strong history of leadership in research and education in both classical and malignant hematology. It offers cutting-edge clinical trials research in lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma and myeloproliferative neoplasms, a strong laboratory-based research in leukemia and lymphoma, and world-class expertise in thrombosis and hemostasis. The candidate would be integrated into the activities of the division and would be responsible for developing a CAR-T (+/-NK) cell therapy program at the JGH.
Job Duties
Please see the Department of Medicine (DOM) website for
McGill DOM Career path definitions
. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.
As a Clinician-Investigator, you will focus on directing a research program of sufficient calibre to publish in peer-reviewed journals and obtain funding from peer-reviewed agencies. The candidate interested in a Clinician-Investigator position will be expected to devote between 25-50% of their time to research.
As a Clinician-Scientist, the candidate will be expected to spend 50% of their time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g. Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de recherche du Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.
The applicant is expected to develop a comprehensive CAR-T (+/-NK) cell therapy clinical and research program. Research can include clinical trials, epidemiological studies, patient reported outcomes and/or basic research. These efforts should lead to publications, grants/trials and collaborations with other provincial, national and international CAR-T centers.
Clinical duties will be based at the Jewish General Hospital. In addition to developing a clinical CAR-T (+/-NK) program, the applicant is expected to evaluate and treat patients referred to the hematology service in the out-patient and hospital settings. The number of weeks of clinical service depends on the applicant’s career path.
The incumbent will be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
All McGill faculty members are also expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
