Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset. In addition, the successful candidate will supervise and contribute to the applied training of graduate students in collaboration with the Toronto Zoo. The incumbent will also contribute to the domestic animal diagnostic pathology submissions to the Department of Pathobiology. The new faculty member is expected to develop an extramurally-funded research program suitable for graduate student education up to the doctoral level. Teaching and administrative duties will be adjusted in the first two years to permit the successful candidate to establish, sustain and grow their research program. The new faculty member is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively and consult with graduate students and faculty in other departments/units, and with staff in the Animal Health Laboratory, the Toronto Zoo, and the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative.

The Department, together with the Animal Health Laboratory, has a new state-of-the-art 13,000 square meter building housing well-equipped modern research and diagnostic laboratories. The College has a large veterinary teaching hospital (Health Sciences Centre), the Animal Cancer Centre and the Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses. In addition, researchers have access to nearby research stations suitable for conducting studies in a variety of domestic animals, on-campus housing for laboratory and production animals, and a wildlife research field station in Algonquin Provincial Park.
