POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Are you ready to make a difference with a winning team? Be a part of something extraordinary at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) where your career can flourish, and you can create a lasting professional and personal impact. Ranked as Canada’s top veterinary college, and 6th globally, the OVC is home to world-class veterinary specialists and scholars.
The Department of Clinical Studies at the University of Guelph invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or tenured position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Applicants interested in a part-time appointment will be considered. The anticipated start date for this appointment is September 15, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025.
Join a collaborative team comprised of five other board-certified surgeons and five surgical residents covering orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. Much of your effort will be dedicated to teaching clinical surgery to DVM students and small animal surgical residents, including managing small animal patients and consulting in the OVC-Health Sciences Centre (OVC-HSC). Orthopedic surgery experience will be regarded favourably, and the flexibility to support the soft tissue surgery service, if required, is considered essential.
The Clinical Studies Department features board-certified specialists in medicine, anesthesiology, critical care, diagnostic imaging, oncology, ophthalmology, neurology, nutrition, and cardiology, providing didactic and clinical instruction in small animal surgery and related disciplines to veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. We offer state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment including but not limited to a 1.5 Tesla high field General Electric MRI, CT, digital radiology, PACS system, state-of-the-art ultrasonography, scintigraphy, arthroscopy, total hip replacement, video endoscopy, fluoroscopy, interventional procedures, rehabilitation facilities, 3D printing, and a fully staffed 24/7 intensive care facility.
On-call duties are remunerated in addition to the base salary. The schedule will be shared equitably with other surgery faculty members, necessitating some orthopedic and soft tissue surgery emergency case management after hours.
The candidate is expected to develop and participate in independent or collaborative research, and mentor and supervise small animal surgical residents and graduate students on a rotating basis. External remunerative activities are permitted for up to 25 days per year, but this opportunity may be increased subject to university approval.
