The Department of Visual Arts at Hastings College welcomes applications for a full-time faculty position in Painting and 2D Foundations, who will serve as Department Chair. This position will be at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and professional standing.
The successful candidate will oversee a dynamic department at a time when the College is implementing the new Jackson Scholars program in art. As an instructor, he/she will teach courses that introduce relevant media within a curriculum that integrates contemporary as well as foundational discourse and practices. Applicants should be prepared to teach Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced courses in Painting across relevant mediums, as well as 2D Foundations courses. In addition, we anticipate opportunities to teach Art History, Printmaking and the Senior Thesis capstone course. Please be sure to indicate your interest, capability and preparation for teaching in these areas.
The successful candidate will hold an MFA in Painting or Studio Art with a focus in Painting, and have experience operating and managing a painting studio-classroom. This includes the promotion and maintenance of a productive and safe working environment for all. The candidate should expect to develop level-appropriate syllabi, present course material during the assigned course times, hold office hours, administer exams, assign grades and coordinate any other requirements related to course instruction. Demonstrated teaching experience is required, either concurrent to, or following graduate studies.
