JOB RECRUITMENT: ASSISTANT PASTOR

Silicon Valley Alliance Church (SVAC) is part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) church body and is now recruiting a full-time assistant pastor/minister.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • The ideal candidate is a graduate of an accredited evangelical seminary with a Master’s degree and possesses strong fluency in both written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese) and English, with Mandarin proficiency considered a plus.
  • The candidate should have a minimum of three years of ministry experience, preferably within North American Chinese churches, and demonstrate a proven ability to lead and develop others. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to handle differences in a healthy, biblical manner.
  • The candidate must exhibit a strong Christian faith commitment, a shepherd’s heart, and alignment with the C&MA theology as well as church leadership philosophy. They should also be capable of maintaining confidentiality and trust when handling sensitive church and member information, and display a clear sense of calling, a servant’s heart, and a passion for discipleship and outreach.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Biblical Preaching & Teaching (2 Timothy 4:2): Faithfully expounding the entirety of God’s Word, interpreting its significance, and applying it to the lives of their congregants.
  • Shepherding the Flock (1 Peter 5:2-3): Demonstrating patience and enduring hope by guiding and supporting individuals, even those who present challenges or difficulties.
  • Providing Spiritual Counseling (James 5:14): Offering care and guidance to church members in times of crisis and need.
  • Prayer & Intercession (1 Timothy 2:1-2): Serving as an intercessor, bringing the church’s needs before God through both public and private prayer.
  • Visitation & Outreach (Matthew 25:35-40): Visiting and supporting the sick and vulnerable, while also training others in the congregation to provide care.
  • Mentoring & Discipleship (2 Timothy 2:2, 1 Corinthians 11:1): Guiding others in living out Gospel principles through personal example and discipleship.
  • Practical Ministry Administration (Acts 20:28): Managing church affairs, including organizational tasks, financial stewardship, and logistical coordination, while emphasizing spiritual growth.
  • Leading Ministry Team (1 Timothy 3:1-7): Identifying, training, and nurturing leaders within the church community, ensuring a sustainable leadership pipeline for the future.
  • Peacemaking (Matthew 5:43-45): Pastor should be able to tactfully and winsomely unite people with varying perspectives to advance harmony and love, and to achieve common goals.
