Primary objective
As senior member of the school management team, the Assistant Principal is required to provide educational leadership in
the formation, implementation and review of Departmental and school policies, educational programs and activities to
ensure achievement of student outcomes.
Context statement
Arlparra School, consisting of five sites in the Utopia Homelands 250 kilometres north-east of Alice Springs, provides
education to students from preschool to senior school and a 0-5 program for children and their families. It has an enrolment
of approximately 240 students from preschool to senior school, all of whom are Indigenous. The school aims to achieve
optimum educational outcomes for learners and input in the development and achievement of key strategic and operational
goals
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure the delivery of effective educational programs to meet the needs of students in line with Departmental policy
through effective leadership and positive partnerships with the school community.
2. Provide leadership and support in the formulation, implementation and review of school policy, procedures and strategic
plans to achieve educational outcomes in partnership with parents, students and staff.
3. Oversee the development and effective implementation of curriculum, student support and wellbeing.
4. Monitor, report and advise on educational, financial and administrative matters to achieve educational outcomes.
5. Undertake appropriate teaching duties and deputise for the principal when required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Broad knowledge of curriculum matters including an in depth understanding of the Australian Curriculum.
2. Well-developed organisational skills including the ability to prioritise to manage situations which are diverse in nature
and to meet a wide range of deadlines.
3. Ability to both lead and work within teams.
4. Proven ability to relate to young people and their families across socioeconomic, geographic and cultural groups.
5. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in strategic planning, organisational development and change management
principles.
