Description
The Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the school leadership team and supports the Principal in providing effective instructional, programmatic, and operational leadership for the school. Working in close partnership with the Principal, the Assistant Principal helps ensure the consistent implementation of high-quality educational and behavioral programming, effective staff performance, a safe and supportive school environment, and compliance with organizational, licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Principal provides visible, hands-on leadership throughout the school and plays a significant role in the daily supervision, coaching, and accountability of staff; implementation of instructional and behavioral expectations; student support; school safety; and day-to-day operations. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with organizational leadership and support teams, including program supervisors, coordinators, and other subject-matter experts, to promote consistency, continuous improvement, and positive student outcomes. In the absence of the Principal, the Assistant Principal assumes responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and operation of the school. The Assistant Principal supervises assigned staff as designated by the Principal and may assume broader supervisory and operational responsibilities in the Principal's absence. Please note: This role requires driving, therefore a "clean driving record" is critical. Compensation & Benefits:  * Competitive salary starting at $65,000 * Health coverage: medical, dental, vision, disability, life, accident, hospital, critical illness, pet * Financial benefits: 401(k) with match, retention bonus, early wage access via DailyPay * Time off & well-being support: generous PTO, paid holidays, employee assistance program & chaplain services, educational assistance, professional development, Calm app access (for you, friends & family) MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES * Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, special education, educational leadership, administration, or related field, preferred. * Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, special education, educational leadership, administration, or related field, required. * Experience working with students with disabilities and students with significant behavioral, emotional, and/or developmental needs, required. * Experience in a school-based or special education setting, required. * Valid Virginia teaching license, preferred. * Experience in educational leadership, staff supervision, coaching, or program coordination, preferred. * Valid VA Driver’s License and proof of insurance. * Satisfactory Driving Record in accordance with Driver Requirements policy. * Must be able to participate in and maintain certification in crisis de-escalation techniques, First Aid, and CPR as required. * Must be physically capable of implementing approved crisis intervention procedures when necessary. * Must serve as a mandated reporter. * Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:00PM. * DRIVING SPECIFIC (The following list may or may not be all inclusive at time of posting): * Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years: * Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit. * Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test. * Manslaughter or negligent homicide. * Driving after being declared a habitual offender. * Driving on a suspended or revoked license * Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order. * Injuring a person while racing - felony. * Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more. * Emergency vehicle violation - death. * Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle. * Blocking access to the service facility. * Attempting to elude police. * Operating an unsafe vehicle. * Vulnerable Road User – Death. * Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years: * Passing a stopped school bus.  * Careless driving. * Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Functions:  May be required to perform any of the following duties: * Conducts classroom walkthroughs, observations, and other monitoring activities as assigned and provides timely, actionable feedback to staff. * Participates in regular data review and problem-solving processes with the Principal and appropriate organizational leadership and support teams. * Provides direct supervision to assigned staff and supports the Principal in maintaining clear expectations for employee performance, attendance, professional conduct, and accountability. * Participates in employee onboarding, coaching, observations, evaluations, performance improvement, and corrective action processes as assigned. * Assists with identifying staff development needs and supports the implementation and follow-through of training and professional development. * Provides leadership during behavioral crises, emergencies, and other significant school incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures. * Supports compliance with VDOE regulations, VAISEF accreditation standards, special education regulations, and organizational policies. * Supports the Principal in maintaining positive relationships with Local Education Agencies (LEAs), families, and other community partners. * All other duties as assigned.
