ASSIGNMENT: Niskayuna High School; 12 months per year;

SUMMARY:

The Assistant Principal is an active participant in the building administrative team, contributing to daily operations and building-level decision-making. This role involves primary responsibility for administering discipline, coordinating student activities, managing facility usage, directly supervising specified departments, overseeing summer school programs, and leading assigned school committees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current New York State Certification as School Building Leader, School Administrator/Supervisor or School District Administrator
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching or student support services related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a school building administrator, preferred

Responsibilities
  • Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school
  • Oversee discipline for assigned grade(s), including filing appropriate documentation
  • Promote instructional development as well as a positive culture and climate throughout the building
  • Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance
  • Provide support to teachers who have students with behavior problems
  • Assist with the implementation of the Code of Conduct
  • Coordinate the master schedule
  • Supervise the preparation of student schedules
  • Lead the recruiting, hiring and selection of new staff
  • Orient new staff members to the building
  • Serve as a resource to outside agencies and individuals for building information
  • Coordinate compliance with health and safety issues
  • Support the development and management of the school budget
  • Provide direction and support for assigned instructional areas
  • Chair assigned committee(s)
  • Serve as Principal in the absence of the regular principal, when designated
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
