Position Summary The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily produce department operations, ensuring high standards of freshness, quality, merchandising, and customer service. This role helps lead produce associates, maintains efficient operations, and ensures compliance with food safety and company standards. Key Responsibilities Department Operations * Assist in managing daily produce operations to ensure department readiness and strong in‑stock conditions * Support ordering, receiving, rotation, and inventory control of produce items * Ensure proper handling, trimming, misting, and replenishment of fresh products * Maintain clean, organized sales floor, prep areas, and backroom spaces Merchandising & Standards * Assist with execution of merchandising plans, seasonal sets, and promotional displays * Ensure accurate signing, pricing, facing, and attractive presentation * Monitor freshness, culls, damages, and shrink to minimize loss Customer Service * Provide excellent customer service and product knowledge assistance * Resolve customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally * Promote a clean, fresh, and inviting produce shopping experience Team Leadership & Training * Support training, coaching, and development of produce department associates * Assist with scheduling, task assignments, and daily workflow * Lead by example to reinforce productivity, accountability, and teamwork * Assume full department leadership responsibilities in the Produce Manager’s absence Sales & Performance * Assist with driving sales through strong execution and merchandising * Monitor department performance including sales trends, labor usage, and shrink * Identify opportunities to improve processes and overall department results Safety & Compliance * Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and company policies * Promote safe lifting techniques and proper equipment use * Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment Qualifications * Previous produce, grocery, or retail leadership experience preferred * Knowledge of fresh product handling, rotation, and food safety practices * Strong customer service, communication, and leadership skills * Ability to train, motivate, and supervise associates * Ability to lift produce cases, stand for extended periods, and work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays Core Competencies * Leadership and teamwork * Freshness and quality focus * Organization and attention to detail * Time management and adaptability * Customer‑first mindset Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay*, PTO/Vacation pay*, paid holidays*, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility).  Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.   *For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
