PORTWEST, a leading global manufacturer of safety wear, workwear and PPE is currently seeking applications for the position of Assistant Product Manager in Manchester on a full-time permanent basis, reporting to the Category Manager. With 1400 styles across more than 20 ranges, we design, manufacture and distribute market leading workwear, safety wear and PPE in fully owned production facilities. JOB SUMMARY: The successful candidate will assist the senior product team in delivering high-quality garment products, managing sample approvals, and ensuring technical specifications meet company standards. The role involves cross-functional collaboration, competitor research, and supporting testing and manufacturing processes to meet deadlines and product objectives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2–5 years of experience in product design, garment development, or a related field.
  • A degree or relevant qualification in fashion, product design, textiles, or a similar course.
  • Strong understanding of technical garment construction and specification processes.
  • Experience managing product samples from development through to final approval.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with experience collaborating across departments.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to work with other members of the product team.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the senior team with technical and constructive elements of garments.
  • Manage the delivery and approval of samples through to the final sealed tape stage, in collaboration with senior product team members.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, adhering to deadlines.
  • Create full technical specifications for products.
  • Conduct competitor research to support product development.
  • Respond to queries relating to garments.
  • Liaise with test houses for new products and ongoing testing requirements.
  • Follow up on projects relating to manufacturing sites.
  • Interact and collaborate with cross-functional departments.
  • Travel may be required occasionally to meet face-to-face with other members of the product team.
