Description The Assistant Production Manager supports daily operations within the boat manufacturing facility and plays a key role in coordinating production schedules, supervising teams, and ensuring boats are built to specification, on schedule, and with the highest quality standards. This role works closely with the Production Manager, Supervisors, and operational departments to maintain efficient workflow, ensure safety compliance, support labor tracking, and assist with timecard management in coordination with Payroll. The Assistant Production Manager is a hands-on leadership role that helps maintain productivity, accountability, and operational consistency across the production floor. Requirements Production & Operational Support Assist the Production Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing daily production operations. Support production scheduling and help ensure departments meet build timelines and delivery targets. Supervise and support production team leads and technicians to maintain efficient workflow. Monitor production quality and identify issues that may affect safety, output, or craftsmanship. Help resolve operational or technical challenges that arise during production. Maintain clear communication between departments, including Engineering, Quality, Materials, and Purchasing. Track production progress and assist with reporting of production performance metrics. Safety & Compliance Support Assist Operations and the Production Manager in promoting and enforcing workplace safety standards. Support compliance with OSHA regulations and industry standards (ABYC, USCG, ISO). Monitor production areas to ensure employees follow safety procedures and use required PPE. Report safety hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions to management. Assist with safety initiatives, training coordination, and compliance documentation. Support facility safety walkthroughs and help ensure corrective actions are addressed. Timecard & Labor Tracking Management Work with department Supervisors to review and verify employee timecards for accuracy. Ensure labor hours are properly allocated to projects, boats, or departments. Coordinate with Payroll to ensure accurate and timely submission of employee time records. Assist in identifying discrepancies in timekeeping and work with Supervisors to correct them. Team Leadership & Workforce Support Provide day-to-day support to production staff and department leads. Participate in employee training, onboarding, and cross-training initiatives. Assist with performance feedback and support employee development. Help reinforce accountability and teamwork across departments. This list is not exhaustive, and responsibilities may be subject to adjustment based on the evolving needs of the business. QUALIFICATIONS: 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or assembly environment. Experience in boat manufacturing, composites, automotive, or similar fabrication environments preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Solid understanding of production workflows and materials used in boat manufacturing (fiberglass, composites, mechanical systems). Familiarity with safety regulations and manufacturing best practices. OSHA certifications preferred but not required (10-hour, 30-hour General Industry, HAZMAT). Proficiency with ERP systems, production tracking tools, and Microsoft Office. Experience with timekeeping systems or labor tracking software preferred. Ability to read technical drawings and interpret work instructions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed on the production floor with some administrative or office tasks. Requires frequent walking, standing, and monitoring of production activities. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to noise, fiberglass dust, resins, paints, and other materials common in boat manufacturing. Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when entering production areas. May require overtime or weekend work depending on production schedules. Schedule: Full-time (Non-exempt), Monday through Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm with occasional overtime and weekends Hourly Rate: Depending on experience This role is based in a boat manufacturing or repair facility.
