The American University of Barbados (AUB) School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty positions in the Basic Sciences Departments. We are hiring new faculty members for expansion of the faculty body and departments and need dynamic and experienced educators with a passion for teaching and commitment to academic excellence in medical education. AUB is an accredited school by CAAM-HP (Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions) and BAC (Barbados Accreditation Council).
Position Title: Assistant Prof / Associate Prof / Professor in the department of Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Microbiology & Immunology, Biochemistry & Genetics, Behavioural Sciences, Neuroscience, Pathology, Pharmacology and Preclinical Sciences foundation.
Location: AUB Campus, Barbados, West Indies.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post graduate degree (PhD, MD, Masters etc.) in related subject
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience (Assistant Professor), 7 years (Associate Professor) and 10 years (Professor) in the discipline in a medical school at the undergraduate level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in CBME (Competency-Based Medical Education) approaches is a plus.
  • As part of our commitment to academic excellence and a culture of scholarly inquiry, applicants must have authored or co-authored peer-reviewed research papers or scholarly articles published in recognized journals indexed in databases
  • A professional clinical qualification would be advantageous
  • Experience in teaching (American Curriculum) USMLE based MD/MBBS program
  • ECFMG certification is desirable
Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging lectures and practical sessions in the related field
  • Develop and lead laboratory activities and instruct students within the laboratory
  • Develop, administer, grade and analyse and evaluate assessment.
  • Participate in curriculum development, item writing, assessment activities, and student mentorship.
  • Contribute to faculty development initiatives and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and research.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in the delivery of integrated curricula.
  • Contribute to different committees with their role as member/chair.
  • Flexibility and ability to work as a team
  • Participate in other activities as assigned by the department chair or deans
  • Complies with all institutional policies and standards
