The Assistant Professor of Biology is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in biology, conducting independent research, and contributing to the academic development of students. These courses may include areas such as molecular biology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, evolution, and anatomy. The position involves mentoring students in research and academic activities and maintaining a strong record of scholarly research. The assistant professor will also participate in curriculum development, departmental initiatives, and service to the institution.

Education

  • A Ph.D. in Biology, or a closely related field, is required.
  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level is preferred, but strong candidates with teaching potential will also be considered.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds
Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver lectures, laboratory exercises, and assessments that engage students in both theoretical and practical aspects of biology.
  • Foster an inclusive and dynamic classroom environment that encourages active learning, critical thinking, and student collaboration.
  • Design new courses or modify existing ones to integrate emerging topics in biology, such as biotechnology, bioinformatics, or environmental sustainability.
  • Integrate hands-on laboratory and field experiences into courses to enhance students’ practical skills.
  • Engage in student recruitment and retention efforts, helping to attract and support students in departmental programs.
  • Actively seek out professional development opportunities to enhance teaching, research, and scholarly activities.
