Role: Assistant Professor
Grade and Salary: Grade 8, £46,735 - £57,422 per annum
FTE and working pattern: 1 FTE, 35hrs per week, Monday - Friday
Holiday Entitlement: 33 days annual leave plus 9 buildings closed days (and Christmas Eve when it falls on a weekday)

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF ROLE

We are looking for potentially more than one assistant professor for our Edinburgh campus. We are particularly interested in hiring people with expertise within one or more of the following areas: robotics, artificial intelligence, generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, human-computer and human-robot interaction, data integration, databases, knowledge representation, parallel and distributed systems, programming languages, and theoretical computer science.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of School/Head of Discipline, responsibilities include:

  • Engaging in high-quality research in your area of expertise.

Writing and submitting grant proposals and securing research funding as a Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. Be responsible for the management and execution of research projects involving academic and other (industrial, public sector, etc.) collaborators, including the School and the University

  • ‘s wider research programmes.
  • Disseminating research findings in publications in top-level conferences and journals within your field and maintaining or building an international research reputation through contributions to the international research community (e.g. by serving as reviewer, referee, expert witness, conference chair, programme committee, editorship of a journal).
  • Supervision and guidance of undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Teaching undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level courses.
