Overview The Generalist OBGYN Physician provides comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care to patients across the lifespan. This role includes outpatient clinical care, inpatient obstetric services, gynecologic surgery, routine screening, management of acute and chronic conditions, and participation in call coverage. The physician works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. Work locations include Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News. Responsibilities Obstetrics Provide prenatal, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. Manage both routine and high-risk pregnancies within scope of training and institutional resources. Perform vaginal deliveries, operative vaginal deliveries (if applicable), and cesarean sections. Provide obstetric triage and emergency obstetric care. Participate in labor and delivery call coverage. Gynecology Perform comprehensive well-woman exams and routine preventive care. Diagnose and manage gynecologic conditions (e.g., abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, vulvar disorders, reproductive endocrinology concerns). Conduct gynecologic procedures such as colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, IUD insertion and removal, Nexplanon placement, and other office-based interventions. Perform gynecologic surgeries (e.g., hysterectomy, salpingectomy, oophorectomy, D&C, laparoscopic procedures) appropriate to training and privileges. Provide perioperative care, including pre-operative evaluation and post-operative follow-up. General Duties Maintain thorough and accurate clinical documentation. Collaborate with nurses, midwives, advanced practice providers, and specialists to coordinate patient care. Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and departmental meetings. Provide patient education and counseling on reproductive health, family planning, contraception, and preventive health. Adhere to hospital, clinic, and regulatory policies and standards. Qualifications Required: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Obstetrics & Gynecology residency program. Board-certified or board-eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Active state medical license (or eligibility for licensure). Current BLS and ACLS; NRP and other certifications as required by the institution. Preferred: Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to patient-centered, culturally sensitive care. Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
