Overview The Department of Biomedical & Translational Sciences at Brock VHS Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University seeks qualified applicants for a full-time salaried faculty position as a health professions educator and Pathologists' Assistant program educational coordinator at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level. Based in Norfolk’s historic Ghent neighborhood on an impressive and growing campus with access to a state-of-the-art simulation center, world class hospitals and newly renovated educational facilities, this community based medical school provides ample opportunities for growth for a professional interested in developing their career as a health professions educator. The successful candidate will join a collegial department that teaches foundational sciences to our medical, professional and graduate students. There are many opportunities for educational research/scholarship. Candidates should have a MS-PA(ASCP), PhD or equivalent terminal degree, and experience teaching medical/graduate level classes in anatomical sciences and/or pathophysiology. The successful candidate will be a motivated and enthusiastic educator with a desire to join an interdisciplinary team of foundational science and clinician colleagues working to deliver an integrated curriculum utilizing learner-centered modalities. Duties will include classroom, large group and small group instruction, course administration, service on programmatic and institutional committees, and active scholarship in education or community-oriented research. ​ Responsibilities Develop, teach, and coordinate the sequencing and assessment of anatomical sciences, pathology and pathophysiology content with appropriate clinical context at the designated level of learner (Pathologists' Assistant and/or medical students) within various educational programs while adhering to all programmatic and institutional policies and procedures. Provide administrative and/or leadership support to courses/programs as assigned for the educational mission of VHS. Provide coordination of the instructional faculty in the clinical phase of the Pathologists' Assistant program as Educational Coordinator. Participate in institutional and programmatic committees and subcommittees as assigned/needed for the educational mission. Provide mentorship for students in the academic, scholarship/research, and/or career setting. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications and Skills: MS-PA (ASCP), PhD or equivalent terminal degree Expertise in anatomical sciences (gross, histology) and pathology/pathophysiology Preferred Qualifications: Skill in evaluation and feedback for professional graduate, medical students and/or residents Knowledge of institution’s Path A curriculum Good communication skills and interpersonal relationships Clinical experience in a hospital grossing room or the medical examiner’s office Location : Location US-VA-Norfolk
