POSITION DESCRIPTION

Valley City State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track or full-time, special appointment faculty position in Environmental Science.
The primary responsibility of this position is to teach a General Education Intro to Earth Science course and other courses as part of the Environmental Science program. Some of these courses will include students from Biology, Biology Education, and Fisheries & Wildlife Science programs. This person will also be the program lead of the Environmental Science program.
The special appointment option is a 9-month contracted position, which may be renewed annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in a related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or ABD in Geology/Environmental Science or related field
  • Ability to teach Hydrology and Environmental Contaminants.
  • Experience teaching in higher education in both face-to-face and online environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the use of technology in the classroom
  • Interest in creating undergraduate research program
  • Strong desire to teach, knowledge of teaching methods, and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with others in a collegial and collaborative manner
  • Expressed interest in teaching at a small regional university with many first-generation students
Responsibilities
  • Teaching a General Education Intro to Earth Science course, a Soils course, an Environmental Earth Science course, and other classes depending on the interest of the candidate and needs of the department (see preferred qualifications).
  • Staying current with course content, evaluating teaching methods and working to improve student learning and engagement.
  • Advising Environmental Science students and recruiting students to the program.
