FOR INFORMAL QUERIES, PLEASE REACH OUT TO SIDDARTHA KHASTGIR (PROFESSOR) AT S.KHASTGIR.1@WARWICK.AC.UK.
We are recruiting a research-focused Assistant Professor to advance our mission in developing safe, human-centric AI systems.
This role is embedded within the Safe Autonomy Research Group at WMG, which is internationally recognised for pioneering safety assurance in autonomous and AI-enabled technologies. You will lead and support high-impact research at the intersection of AI safety, human-AI interaction, and Explainable AI (XAI).
Your work will involve designing and conducting user-in-the-loop studies—ranging from driving simulators to real-world trials—to explore how humans perceive, trust, and interact with AI systems.
Collaborating with leading academic and industrial partners across major programmes like Horizon Europe and UKRI, you will help shape the development of responsible and trustworthy AI in safety-critical domains.
About You
You are an AI researcher with a strong background in human factors, cognitive psychology, or a related discipline, and hold a PhD in a relevant area.
You bring expertise in designing empirical studies around human-AI interaction, with a deep understanding of how trust, explainability, and user acceptance influence the deployment of AI technologies.
You have practical experience applying XAI techniques and are passionate about advancing AI that is not only technically robust but also transparent, interpretable, and safe for real-world use.
With a strong track record in publishing, collaborating across sectors, and securing research funding, you thrive in interdisciplinary teams and are driven by a commitment to building AI systems that align with human values and safety expectations.
For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.
