POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. The candidate will specialize in real time, in-situ sensing of water quality, with an emphasis on waterborne pathogen and/or antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection. This forms part of a cluster hire and the successful candidate will codevelop an internationally recognized research program on the surveillance and control of waterborne pathogens and/or AMR. There are exciting opportunities for collaboration within SES (e.g. research strengths exist in soil sensing and environmental monitoring) and the broader research community at UoG. The candidate will help to develop and teach courses in the area of water and environmental systems at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The willingness to work collaboratively and to mentor students from a range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds is essential.
The candidate must hold a PhD in Engineering (Civil, Chemical, Environmental or Electrical), Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field, and a preferred minimum of three years post-doctoral experience. The candidate must have a proven record of research excellence and impact in water sensor development/validation and have skills or abilities applicable for sensing of waterborne pathogens/AMR. The candidate will have demonstrated potential to: collectively establish an internationally recognised research program; align with the strategic direction of the university (https://www.uoguelph.ca/president/strategic-plan/) and align with the CERC on Waterborne Pathogens (https://www.cerc.gc.ca/chairholders-titulaires/index-eng.aspx); attract, develop and retain excellent trainees/students/researchers; lead a team which commits to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) practices; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in water and environmental sciences; and, provide service to SES, UoG and the wider community.
