Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Professor-in-Residence, Biological Anthropology [R0144550].
ROLE of the POSITION
The ideal applicant will possess a commitment to teaching and service. Job responsibilities include teaching a mixture of four in-person and online classes each semester. Candidates should be prepared to teach existing courses, such as Introduction to Biological Anthropology (ANTH 102), Human Osteology (ANTH 462), and Bones, Bodies and Trauma: Forensic Studies in Anthropology (ANTH 365). Familiarity with instruction in statistics/quantitative analysis preferred. Also, the candidate should be prepared to teach a course of their own design. Other teaching responsibilities include mentorship, attending teaching workshops, and developing courses. Although this position is a non-tenure track position, there are promotions available.
The candidate is expected to serve on committees at a department, college, and university level, as well as mentor undergraduate students.
PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE
The Department of Anthropology at UNLV is a three-field department (archaeology, biological anthropology and cultural anthropology). Faculty members in the UNLV Department of Anthropology specialize in diverse geographical areas, including Africa, Alaska, the American Southwest, Central Andes (Peru), China, England, Mexico, and the Mexico-U.S. border.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a PhD in Anthropology or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and must have conducted research in biological anthropology and have proven expertise in teaching. ABD will be considered. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
