Description:
The Department of Urban Education at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership with a specialization in K–12 leadership. We are seeking applicants with a commitment to preparing school leaders who can promote positive change and improved outcomes in K–12 schools and related educational contexts.
Candidates should bring strong knowledge of educational leadership, a record of or potential for impactful scholarship, and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities within today’s school communities. Responsibilities include teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, conducting research, collaborating with departmental and university colleagues, building and maintaining school district partnerships, supervising practicum and internship experiences, and contributing to institutional and professional service.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Earned doctorate in educational leadership or educational administration. Note: earned doctorate in a strongly related field focused on K-12 teaching and learning will suffice for credentialing purposes if the degree is accompanied by a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in educational leadership
  • At least three (3) years of successful experience in K-12 school leadership positions (e.g., school principal, assistant/vice principal, district superintendent, or other district-level leadership), preferably in public school settings
  • Qualified to teach a range of educational leadership courses
  • At least three (3) years of successful K-12 teaching experience, preferably in public school settings
  • Evidence of the ability to teach and advise with a high level of effectiveness
  • Potential for excellence in scholarly research and publications
  • Evidence of the ability to engage in national or state professional associations and community/campus service activities
  • Availability for course delivery during the day, evenings, and on weekends in multiple/ hybrid formats
  • Demonstrated ability and/or interest in teaching a variety of students
  • Demonstrated willingness to assist with program development, recruitment activities, program assessment and accreditation reporting requirements, and student advising
  • Demonstrated willingness to collaborate with and provide service to the department, college, university, profession, and community

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of current Texas principal licensure requirements
  • The ability to teach courses in several of the following specializations: Instructional Leadership and Supervision, School Business, Human Capital Management, Special Education & School Law, Ethics, and School, Family & Community Engagement
  • The ability to supervise graduate students in their principal internships
  • Experience with cohort recruitment and teaching\
  • Experience with developing and teaching graduate- and undergraduate-level courses online and in-person
  • Experience in creating/leading professional development activities for teachers
  • Proficiency in instructional technology, online instruction, and effective course design in a variety of course modalities
  • Knowledge of disciplinary trends in the field of Educational Leadership
  • Evidence of supporting the improvement of educational outcomes through addressing educational outcomes
  • Evidence of effective two-way communication, professionalism, dependability, initiative, analytical and forward thinking, organization, versatility, project and time management, confidence in decision-making, and delivering desired results.
