JOB SUMMARY:

Adelphi University’s Theater Department invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in scenic design with some proficiency in Lighting design and Projection to start in Fall 2025. The ideal candidate will be committed to collaborating with current faculty in maintaining and cultivating a forward-thinking pedagogy for diverse, multifaceted theater artists. The candidate will teach courses including Scenic Design, Props, computer drafting and Scene Painting. There would be potential opportunities to design for departmental productions, and to teach additional courses in the candidate’s area of interest.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires a terminal degree MFA.
  • The candidate should have experience teaching full-time or part-time in a university or college setting
  • Expertise in scenic design and some proficiency in lighting or projections.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching design classes with an understanding of various theatrical styles.
  • A record of professional accomplishments as a designer.
  • Demonstrated capacity to apply diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in the classroom, production work, and academic community.
  • Demonstrated capacity to mentor and prepare designers to enter the changing professional world.
  • Ability to engage in consensus-based collaboration with students, staff, and faculty.
Responsibilities

  • Faculty are expected to participate in teaching, professional and artistic service, and service to the institution, as well as participation in the day-to-day life of the department.
  • The candidate would mentor students with their production work, assist in providing mentorship of students assigned to Department of Theatre productions, maintain a vibrant professional creative or scholarly research agenda, and provide ongoing service to the university and profession.
