The Assistant Professor of Secondary Education will support the preparation of future middle and high school educators through high-quality instruction, research, and service. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise teacher candidates, supervise clinical experiences, and engage in scholarly activity aligned with the mission of the university and the School of Education.

EDUCATION

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Secondary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field (ABD considered with expected completion before start date).
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in middle or high school settings.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in secondary education (e.g., instructional methods, classroom management, assessment, and content-specific pedagogy).
  • Develop and revise curriculum to align with current state and national teaching standards.
  • Integrate culturally responsive teaching strategies and emerging technologies into coursework.
  • Advise and mentor secondary education majors through their academic and professional development.
  • Supervise student teachers during field placements and clinical experiences.
  • Work closely with local schools to support effective student teaching partnerships.
  • Engage in scholarly activities including research, publications, and presentations.
  • Pursue opportunities for grant funding and collaborative research.
  • Participate in program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Serve on departmental, school, and university committees.
  • Engage in community outreach and maintain strong partnerships with local secondary schools.
