Department/ Unit: Faculty of Social Science Closing Date: Until the post is filled The Gender Studies Programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is the first programme in gender studies in the tertiary education sector in Hong Kong. It is an interdisciplinary unit based in the Faculty of Social Science, offering Bachelor, MA, MPhil and PhD programmes. The forward-looking team of Gender Studies Programme is inviting applications for the post of Assistant Professor on substantiation (tenure) track to join from the academic year 2026-27 or as soon as possible. The appointee is expected to (a) conduct research and secure research grants; (b) teach courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (c) supervise students’ theses; and (d) undertake administrative duties. Applicants should possess: (i) a PhD degree by the time of reporting for duty; (ii) relevant research experience in gender/sex/sexuality-related areas; (iii) demonstrated potential/ ability for high quality research; and (iv) a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to excellent research, teaching, and service. Applicants specializing in any of the following areas are preferred: • Empirical gender/sex/sexuality studies • ⁠Human and social development • Social sustainability or sustainable development Applicants who specialize in a subject field in Social Science (e.g., Journalism, Social Work, Political Science, Economics) that adds to the diversity of the existing team or whose profile strengthens the programme’s internationalization are preferred. Applicants in cognate subjects (e.g., Education) will also be considered if they possess a profile of a good match to Social Science and especially if they are strong in quantitative empirical research.
