The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a one-year term position in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a proposed starting date of July 1, 2025. We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in teaching chemistry and biochemistry courses and a range of expertise across all disciplines in Chemistry. The successful candidate will be asked to teach a first course in Analytical Chemistry (lecture & laboratory), second year organic chemistry, a blended course in second year organic and biochemistry, a course in biochemical methods (lecture & laboratory), and an advanced organic chemistry course. The ideal candidate will be someone who has taken multiple courses in all of the sub-disciplines of chemistry.
This position has no expectation of research, however, the University of Northern British Columbia is ranked as one of Canada’s best small universities with a strong emphasis on research and graduate programs. It has a core campus in Prince George and regional campuses and research institutes throughout northern British Columbia. The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs (B.Sc., B.Sc.- Honours, M.Sc.) and has a wide variety of relevant research instrumentation such as multinuclear NMR (300 MHz and 400 MHz), FT-IR, Mass Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography, and analytical and preparative HPLC. We also have a wide variety of instrumentation for Chemical-Biological studies such as a Cell Sorter, a QPCR machine, a multimode plate reader, and a confocal microscope.
