Temple Recruitment are currently looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to assist our client based in Northampton, Northamptonshire.
They are looking to develop their commercial team with a view to offer business sustainability and controlled growth with their existing and expanding client base. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast paced environment on varying types of estimate and project which vary in size and procurement route including small decorating works to large commercial refurbishments on a wide variety of property.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Essential

  • Previously worked within an estimating role
  • Be able to demonstrate a level of construction knowledge
  • Be able to demonstrate a level of cost knowledge and be able to accurately cost works using multiple methods such as time and materials and bills of quantities
  • Be computer literate with an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Be comfortable working with minimal supervision and show an ability to solve problems by acting on own initiative
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure with multiple assignments at once
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Take pride in what you produce, with excellent organisation, presentation and people skills
  • Demonstrate the ability the work as part of an existing team
  • The ability to make judgement calls and assessments from limited information based upon experience and knowledge
  • Full valid UK driving licence, the ability to drive and to travel to sites across our working area
  • An industry applicable degree level/level 6 qualification or willingness to work towards one.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of the refurbishment industry
  • Be able to demonstrate a level of refurbishment knowledge
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to produce accurate bills of quantities to NRM
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to precisely specify required works.
Responsibilities

Reporting to the managing director and working alongside the commercial team and projects team the successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Assisting with quotes and tenders from receipt, through to submission and post submission queries
  • Measure and quantify materials and works and prepare tender documents
  • Accurately costing works and preparing budgets for the commercial and project team where required
  • Understanding the client’s requirements and responding to them correctly
  • Evaluating risk and reward
  • Maintaining and developing good client and supply chain relationships
  • Visiting site to gain information and feedback
  • Liaising with existing and researching new subcontractors and the supply chain for specification, availability, and pricing
  • Closely working with the project team following award and whilst on site to ensure effective delivery of each project
  • Assisting with cost control including interim valuations and final accounts and tracking changes or variations with appropriate documentation
  • Assisting with costing variations as required.

The role is seen as developmental, and the ideal candidate should have the willingness to develop their own skills and understanding whilst increasing their responsibilities to further develop the business towards its goals.
