Overview Plans, organizes, and delivers Therapeutic Recreation services in patients in the assigned facilities. For assigned caseload, provide assessment, care planning to residents under supervision. Responsibilities Ensure adequate intervention to all residents of caseload responsibility and participate in care planning. Provide clinical service delivery with guidance, including motivational rounds, 1:1 intervention and group work to residents of caseload responsibility. Refer and accept caseloads among Therapist’s groups as necessary and required. Ensure service delivery is needs responsive. Design, implement and continuously adapt groups to population needs, maintaining a vital group millieu that appeals to the changing needs of the population. Participate in design and delivery of large group, community and special events. Participate in training and orientation of new departmental employees; routinely provide support in development of new therapists. Supervises volunteers as assigned. Demonstrate organizational workplace skills: able to prioritize and plan day, follows facility policies and procedures. Maintain inventory of recreation supplies, submits requisitions for program supplies as needed. Maintain storage areas in a neat, clean and safe manner. Returns supplies to storage neatly, in a timely manner, and with respect for other workers. Provide appropriate seasonal décor for unit public areas, dining rooms and bulletin boards, that is aestheically pleasing, provides a sense of anticipation for seasonal program offerings, and provide normative reality orientation. Perform other duties as requested. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation required. Experience: Minimum two (2) years full-time experience in a clinical residential setting with any of the populations served by the facility. Internship or Master's coursework may be considered as part of experience requirement. Knowledge and Skills: Develop resources and skills sets to offer a range of modalities for group intervention. Group delivery skills and leadership, facilitation techniques used in group conduct. Demonstrate interpersonal workplace skills; shows flexibility and adaptability to change, able to soften disagreements and elicit team support. Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. Licenses, Certifications: Certification by National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification - Professional Level [CTRS]. Physical Requirements: Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Ability to position and partially lift patients is required.
