Tenure: Fixed term contract until Friday 29th May 2026
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE - three days per week)
Location: Home based, a location commutable around London region
Salary: London Living Wage - £27,007.50 FTE
To support local parties and their campaign teams, and build volunteer capacity in local parties and campaigning ahead of the local elections in May 2026. A particular focus will be helping local parties elect their first councillor in the 2026 elections, and working with the existing London Region staff team to deliver training and spread best practice.
At least one day per week will be spent phoning members or those who have expressed an interest in joining or getting involved – to bolster our membership, and increase the number of actively involved volunteers. One day per week of the successful applicant’s time will be spent on supporting the Harrow local party, with a focus on capacity and skills building.
Main Responsibilities
To support and assist our local campaign teams to develop their skills and campaigning, and to win elections, including:
Recruitment - helping campaigners to create implement capacity building plans, and actively supporting local parties in growing their local parties and identifying candidates and lead activists;
Membership support and growth - delivering a programme of phoning to members and member prospects to grow our membership, encourage existing members to renew their membership, and helping members and supporters to take their first steps in local campaigning. This programme of phoning will have clear ‘calls per week’ performance indicators attached to it;
Technical - helping campaigners with Connect, Lighthouse and other systems/platforms both personally and directing them to relevant help within the Party;
Literature - helping campaigners with content, style and online composition;
Training - providing local training events and actively promoting local campaigners participating online and in person;
Coordinating regional training and development activity with the Campaigns Manager and regional stakeholders, and working as one team to help with setting objectives for local parties and delivering one set of London-wide election objectives.
Person Specification
Essential
1. Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.
2. Experience of successful election campaigns.
3. Ability to create a positive, welcoming and motivating climate for potential Liberal Democrat candidates and activists, from across the spectrum of our region’s diverse makeup, whether or not they are currently party members.
4. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
5. Good IT skills, and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
6. The ability to work with, and motivate, volunteers and teams.
7. Ability to work without immediate supervision to deliver agreed objectives.
8. Able to work flexibly, including weekends and evenings.
Desirable
1. Practical experience of successful Liberal Democrat campaigning for example as a candidate, agent or other key role.
2. Experience of mass phoning to achieve an objective - e.g. sales, recruitment or donations.
3. Experience of strategic planning of campaigns.
4. An understanding of the structures and functions of local Government in London.
5. Experience of delivering training.
6. Familiarity with Connect, Affinity Publisher and Lighthouse.
