__________ DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY | TE TARI MATŪ KOIORA DIVISION OF HEALTH SCIENCES | TE WĀHANGA MATUA MĀTAU HAUORA The role | Te mahi This research project, based within the Rare Disorder Genetics Lab at the University of Otago, focuses on the functional characterisation of candidate genes associated with neurodevelopmental syndromes. As an Assistant Research Fellow, you will provide essential hands-on support for the experimental work. Your primary responsibilities will include: • Establishing and maintaining various human cell lines. • Performing molecular biology assays, including siRNA-mediated depletion, qRT-PCR, western blotting, and protein stability assays. • Assisting with data organisation, maintaining meticulous lab records, and supporting the preparation of figures for publication. Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako • An Honours/Masters degree in genetics, molecular biology, or a related discipline. • Demonstrated experience in mammalian cell culture; experience with iPSC culture is preferred. • Proficiency in core molecular biology techniques such as PCR, western blotting, and immunofluorescence. • Experience with imaging software (e.g., ImageJ) and data analysis. • Organised, methodical, and proactive, with excellent attention to detail and a "can-do" attitude. Hours will be negotiated with the successful candidate (minimum 0.65FTE, maximum 0.8FTE). The anticipated start date is Monday, 2 March 2026. The salary for this position ranges from $62,496 to $84,125 (pro-rata) based on qualifications and experience. You must have the right to work in New Zealand to apply for this position.
