__________ GRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOOL | TE KURA RANGAHAU TĀURA RESEARCH DIVISION | TE WĀHAKA MATUA RAKAHAU About our team | Mō te tīma The Graduate Research School (GRS) supports over 1,200 doctoral candidates across the University of Otago, providing leadership in postgraduate policy, development, and candidate experience. The role | Te mahi The School is seeking an Assistant Research Fellow to provide research support for a study reimagining doctoral assessment to promote inclusivity, authenticity, and relevance. As an integral member of the research team, you will contribute to understanding sector readiness for alternative approaches to doctoral assessment. Your work will involve: • Collating and analysing relevant literature. • Compiling a database of policies relating to doctoral assessment. • Setting up, organising, and conducting interviews with key stakeholders. • Analysing qualitative interview data. • Assisting with dissemination of findings, including reports and presentations. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change in doctoral education, supporting the development of more inclusive and future‑focused assessment practices. Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako The successful applicant will: • Be a current (or recently completed) doctoral candidate at the University of Otago. • Have essential experience in qualitative research, including interviewing and data analysis. • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Show proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team. • Possess a strong desire to enhance the doctoral experience for future candidates. Highly valued (but not required): • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. • Experience working in Pacific research contexts. You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for these positions. The salary range for this position is $62,496 to $84,125 (pro rata).
