Summary The ​Assistant - Research Laboratory Management​ supports the work of the Research Laboratories Manager in the daily management of Research laboratories and coordination of associated activities. Assists in ensuring a functional and effective operational laboratory environment as evidenced by timeliness and quality of services. Assists in ensuring a safe working environment for all research staff and visitors (including cleaners, maintenance etc.) Key Role Accountabilities Management of the laboratories and scientists Assists in the daily operations of the laboratories including both administrative duties and direct involvement in the research endeavors of the labs. Assists in resolving laboratory operational problems by consulting with management, researchers, inspectors, facility managers, technical managers, health care professionals. Assists in the coordination of all regulatory and compliance activities for the labs; be familiar with the local and international regulatory requirements specific to the lab and ensures all users are in compliance with relevant standards. Delivers excellent customer service to laboratory staff and researchers. Interfaces heavily with Internal Research stakeholders, PIs, end users, Facilities Dept., Biomedical Engineering Dept., SSOC. Operation of laboratories Assists in maintaining laboratory information systems (e.g. LIMS/ELN) by identifying information needs and problems. Assists with LIMS/ELN configuration and data entry, and producing reports. Assists in receiving equipment and supplies into laboratories, in close coordination with Sidra’s Customs, Logistics, Biomedical Engineering and Receiving departments. Assists in communicating and enforcing laboratory safety rules to researchers and staff working in the labs. Ensures, promotes that all users of the lab are wearing the appropriate PPE and labs are adequately signposted. Assists in accident/incident investigation, documentation and reporting procedures and follows-up on all accidents. Assists in organizing product demos and scheduling lab training sessions. Assists in moving equipment in collaboration with BME and porters. Assists in following up on issues occurring inside the labs and raised by researchers. Maintenance/Housekeeping Assists in ensuring that laboratories are cleaned/sanitized and kept in an orderly manner. Assists in ensuring all instrumentations/equipment is functioning properly. Assists with the replenishment of lab consumables and gases, in coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders. Qualifications, Experience and Skills - Selection Criteria ESSENTIAL PREFERRED Education Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline Experience 2+ years of experience working in biomedical or clinical laboratories 3+ years working in biomedical or clinical laboratories as technician, technologist or biomedical engineer Certification and Licensure AACC, Joint Commission International, ISO 9001 Job Specific Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of health, Safety and environmental legislation as it applied to the laboratory Basic scientific knowledge Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Fluency in written and spoken English Demonstrated practical knowledge of laboratory management Demonstrated independent problem solving and safety implementation experience.
