Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to join our research team in the Division of Medicine. We are offering a great opportunity to gain research experience in one of the most dynamic and well-respected Academic Health Science Centres within the UK. This post offers an ideal opportunity for an individual who would like to further develop their career within the area of clinical research and gain valuable experience into how clinical trials operate from setup through to conclusion in the specialty of Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease.
The Assistant Research Practitioner will be responsible for recruiting and following up patients within studies adopted by National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). This involves screening referred patients to confirm their eligibility to take part in research, approaching them with relevant information, consenting eligible patients to observational research studies based in out patient clinics and data entry to data bases specific to each clinical studies. This will involve closely working with multidisciplinary clinical teams and other researchers in the Neurosciences research department and within the Division of Medicine and Integrated Care.
The post holder will share the overall workload and day-to-day running of the team with the research staff. This includes administrative tasks but also processing of blood samples, collection and uploading of data onto electronic systems and preparation for follow-up visits i.e. room bookings, reimbursement of expenses and taxi bookings for patients taking part in research. The post holder will be supported by the clinical research nurses/coordinators and consultants in the assessment and recruitment of patients.
The post holder will support the aims of the Trust and the NIHR clinical research network to improve the speed, quality, and integration of clinical research, through the successful delivery of clinical research in the NHS.
The post holder will support the co-ordination and administration of the day to day activity of the clinical delivery team. The main focus of the role will be in supporting the delivery teams in the administrative tasks relating to clinical research, for example data entry and compliance and site files maintenance.
The post holder will ensure that any research undertaken safeguards the well-being of research participants and is conducted to ICH Good Clinical Practice.
