Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Applicants are sought for Assistant Research Professor Positions at the U.S. Naval Academy to carry out research under several multi-year funded projects studying the use and application of ionic liquids and related systems. These projects are directed at the generation of novel biopolymer and biopolymer composite materials using ionic liquid based processing methods; the chemical, physical, and structural characterization of novel ionic liquids and ionic liquid solvent systems; and the study and use of new ionic liquids for electrochemical power applications.
These positions will entail carrying out state-of-the-art research under the direction of USNA Chemistry Faculty. They will involve designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, presenting results at scientific meetings, and writing manuscripts to be submitted to refereed journals. In addition, the positions will involve the mentorship of midshipmen researchers.
These are onsite, non-tenure track federal excepted service positions with a one-year initial appointment and the possibility of renewing for up to 4-years. These positions include office space, computer facilities, library privileges, conference travel support, health benefits, and a competitive salary. The positions are currently open, and the starting date is negotiable. The salary offered to the individual selected for the position will be dependent upon the individual’s background, experience and qualifications for the position, as well as funds available to support the position.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, polymer science or related field (degree must be completed by the start date).

OTHER EXPERIENCES OR INTERESTS:

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience or demonstrated interest in some or all of the following areas:

  • Experience with biomaterial processing and modification is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with electrochemical methods and the synthesis and characterization of ionic liquids are also desirable but not mandatory.
