Knowledge, Training and Experience GCSE (or equivalent) Maths, English & Science Grade C/4 or above. Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant Qualification Experience of performing physiological investigations. Experience of working in a healthcare environment in a patient facing role. Skills Required Excellent communication skills Able to prioritise and act on own initiative Self-motivated and effective when working under pressure Creating and recording accurate records of daily workload Flexible and reliable Team player Organised Confident and able to deal with challenging situations/individuals Willing to learn IT skills including hospital administration systems and use of departmental computer systems To participate in the following activities, under supervision where appropriate.
Clinical Undertake the following investigations independently; Spirometry, Exhaled Nitric Oxide, 6 Minute Walk Tests, Overnight Oximetry and end-tidal CO2 measurements. To recognise and respect the patients right to confidentiality, privacy and dignity. To be courteous and helpful, and sensitive to patients worries and concerns. To assist other members of the team in maximising all aspects of patient care.
Perform routine calibration and quality control of equipment. Communication Communicate effectively with patients to ensure all assessments undertaken are performed safely and results of the best quality are obtained. Patient groups may include those where barriers to communication exist, such as patients with learning or other disabilities or whose primary language is not English. Use appropriate methods of motivation, encouragement and persuasion to ensure accurate results are obtained whilst respecting the integrity of the person and working with them to achieve the best possible outcome.
Education and Training Carry out work-based learning in the department as required to fulfil the requirements of the post. Clinical Governance, Research and Audit Operate in accordance with Good Scientific Practice To be aware of the principles of clinical governance and understand what the benefits for patients and staff are. To understand the clinical governance structure within the Trust and how you may be involved. Resource/Financial Management Safe use of expensive equipment.
Stock top-up and maintenance of tidiness in clinical areas. Policy Ensure compliance with Trust and Departmental policies and procedures. Professional Complete mandatory training at the frequency outlined by the Trust
