Description:
Grieg Seafood BC Ltd., a dynamic and growing company in the Aquaculture industry, is seeking to hire a permanent full-time Assistant Sea Site Manager. Reporting to the Sea Site Manager, the Assistant Sea Site Manager is responsible for all farm operations including feeding, animal husbandry, maintaining contractor relationships, security of stocks and coordinating/directing work crews. The Assistant Sea Site Manager works a shift of 8 days on and 6 days off on one of our sea sites, leading a team Aquaculture Technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management
- Supports all day-to-day management of the sea site and fish;
- Supports ordering feed, fuel, forecasting and planning;
- Supports management of biosecurity procedures and product use;
- Ensures maintenance and inspections of farm equipment and systems;
- Fish escape, predator and wildlife interaction response and prevention;
- Feed and fuel delivery and storage;
- Supports site preparation, fish stocking, transfers, grading, treatments and harvests;
- Plankton and oxygen monitoring and response planning;
- Vessel operation and equipment towing;
- Fish health and weight sampling/mortality classification;
- Centralized feeding equipment maintenance and programming;
- VHF Radio operation and procedure;
- Emergency response - medical evacuation procedures;
- Data recording and entry into Fish Talk.
Talent Management
- Ensure adherence to company Human Resources practices and procedures and fostering of positive ongoing relationships with all employees;
- Ensure that all necessary training and education of employees is kept current, updated and improved;
- Supports Site Manager with the preparation and implementation of staff performance reviews, staff development, objective-setting and succession planning;
- Train, develop, mentor and coach junior team members;
- Supports Site Manager with maintaining efficient and productive staffing levels;
- Provide input into staffing schedules and manpower management;
- Responsible for the safety of all site staff.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources or Fisheries Resources Management preferred;
- Must have minimum three years’ recent related experience;
- Strong leadership skills;
- Excellent Project Management Skills;
- Physically fit;
- Ability to problem solve;
- Well-developed interpersonal skills;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong report-writing skills;
- Computer proficiency;
- Proficient in use of Fish Talk or similar fish health management software;
- In depth knowledge of all company policies, procedures and government regulations;
- Able to train Aquaculture Technicians to company Standard Operating Procedures;
- Ability to understand and direct plans in support of FCR and Growth Performance;
- Proficient math skills;
- Favorable driver’s license.
