ASSISTANT STAFF DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR (RN/LPN)

Assist the Staff Development Coordinator and Staff Development Instructor with the orientation of the recently hired Health Care Specialists. Responsible for providing the highest level of quality nursing care for specific residents as prescribed by physician’s orders, the care plan or other recognized sources when functioning as a HCS and with the functioning of the Staff Development Department. Employee must have the ability to communicate effectively with personnel. Exhibits a positive attitude. Is computer literate, able to work in a Windows environment and proficient with most clinical software programming.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Must be proficient in reading and writing and understand the spoken and written word. Must be able to apply good sound nursing judgement while applying the Nurse Practice Act. Must have some computer skills. Must be able to hear with corrective or adaptive devices and see 20/20 with corrective eyewear. Must have simple computational skills such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division and percentages. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend at knees and waist, push and pull, turn and lift a minimum of 50lbs.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.

    1. Demonstrate an attitude of cooperation and enthusiasm in classroom and resident care activities.

    • Demonstrate consistent ability to work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, Unit Mangers and all department managers and staff.

    • Participate in resident care conferences and other meetings as assigned.

    • Seek assistance when confronted with a resident problem that requires special assessment.

    • Perform basic nursing skills and demonstrate knowledge and competence:

      a. Demonstrate equipment and procedures.

      b. Actively participating with the orientation of the recently hired staff in the care of residents and the completion of established plans of care.

      c. Supervise the orientee in the laboratory/clinical setting during the orientation program.

      d. Effectively document care provided.

    • Act as a role model for all staff. Function as a preceptor and provide direct resident care under the supervision of the charge nurse.

    • When needed, function as a HCS (see job description, HCS).

    • Assist the Staff Development Coordinator and Assist. Staff Dev. Instructor with the daily functioning of the department.

      a. Keep files current and in proper order.

      b. Distribute departmental notices/activities on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

      c. Maintain all in-service records.

      d. Maintain and control office supplies.

      e. Assist in maintenance of staff library.

      f. Maintain accurate mattress log of all units and coordinate changes.

      g. Perform a quarterly mattress check on all units.

    • Maintain confidentiality concerning residents’ right to privacy and any information concerning trainees.

    • Comply with department and facility procedures, safety and fire prevention.

    • Assist with the coordination of all training programs, trainee attendance and any other activities as assigned

    • Assist with the coordination of NA State testing – when available.

    • Participate in in-service educational programs.

    • Employment is contingent on successful completion of all the pre-employment physical and criminal background check and Sanction Checks with negative results.

    • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc, including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

    • Successfully completed State of Pa. Training and competency evaluation program.

    • Other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor

    • Must currently be licensed as a Licensed Nurse by the PA State Board of Nurse Examiners.
    • Must be knowledgeable of State and Federal Regulations for Long Term Care.
