Urban Nature Store is seeking a self-motivated, highly organized person to join our team as Assistant Manager of our Kingston store, located at 645 Gardiners Rd.
Urban Nature Store is a leader in the Wild Birding industry. Our customers rely on us for our expertise and for a wide variety of high quality wild bird related products. Everything from food to binoculars, specialty gifts and garden accessories. Our customers are wild bird and nature enthusiasts who love to share their latest nature stories and sightings with us.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 year of retail or service related experience in a supervisory role (Pet, birding or garden sector experience is a definite asset).
  • Wild bird enthusiast who actively feeds/photographs and maintains a birding journal is an asset.
  • Highly organized with ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibility.
  • Ability to create, maintain and rotate attractive merchandising displays.
  • Familiar with Google Sheets and the maintenance of information across several spreadsheets.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and other productivity software.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English at a proficient level.
  • Basic math skills, as it relates to retail sales.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including experience using a POS system.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 lb bags.
  • Able to work days, evenings, weekends.
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to and from the store.
  • Enthusiasm for independent research, learning and personal growth.

Responsibilities

Assistant Store Managers are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the store and ensuring optimum sales through merchandise, inventory and human resource management. You would be responsible for:

  • Ensuring each customer receives outstanding customer service in a friendly environment, which includes greeting and welcoming each customer, maintaining high standards, solid product knowledge and all other aspects of outstanding customer service.
  • Setting a positive example through effective sales skills and product knowledge on the sales floor.
  • Accomplished in visual merchandising and display building.
  • Cleaning the store and maintaining the overall appearance of the store.
  • Assisting with receiving deliveries of products and proper inventory rotation.
  • Ensuring the accurate completion of all sales transactions and proper cash accountabilities at the POS register.
  • Training staff on the use of the POS system and other company policies and procedures.
  • Communicating and working with management and fellow team members.
  • Daily upkeep of performance spreadsheets and reports.
  • Helping the Manager create the monthly staffing schedule.
  • Assisting with payroll submissions and bonus reports.
  • Assisting with the development of local marketing efforts.
