The Town of East Greenwich is a coastal town along the western shore of Narragansett Bay. Located between Warwick and North Kingstown, East Greenwich has a small town feel with an abundance of local character. Main Street, a typical small New England town street, provides for great shopping and dining opportunities, and the walking tour of the Hill and Harbor district will allow you to travel back in time to the early days of the Revolution. Our Town recently passed a $150 million school construction bond that will impact all six schools in some way.
Our Town is very invested in public education. The East Greenwich School District is consistently ranked at or near the top of all public-school districts in Rhode Island. Our top-tier, 5-star district currently serves approximately 2550 students in six schools: Meadowbrook Farms Elementary serves grades PK-2, Frenchtown Elementary serves grades K-2, Hanaford and Eldredge Elementary schools serve grades 3-5, Cole Middle School serves grades 6-8, andEast Greenwich High School serves grades 9-12.Strategic Goal Alignment: The Assistant Superintendent will ensure all job responsibilities align with the goals of the district’s current strategic plan.Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction: Oversee the development, implementation, and alignment of the district curriculum to state standards and the district calendar.Lead the review and selection of instructional materials and resources.Monitor and analyze student learning data to identify areas for improvement and inform instructional practices.Support the implementation of effective assessment strategies to measure student progress and program effectiveness.Work with principals and teachers to develop and implement professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on curriculum and instruction.Federal and Other Grants: Identify and secure grant opportunities that support the district’s strategic goals.Manage the grant application process and ensure compliance with grant requirements.Oversee the implementation of grant-funded programs and monitor their effectiveness.Prepare grant reports and communicate grant outcomes to stakeholders.District Professional Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive professional development plan for teachers and staff aligned with the district’s strategic goals.Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities that address the needs of educators at all levels.Evaluate the effectiveness of professional development programs and make adjustments as needed.Support the development and implementation of teacher mentoring programs, including the teacher induction program.Implementation of Rhode Island Model of Evaluation: Lead the implementation of the Rhode Island Model of Evaluation for teachers and administrators, Provide training and support to principals and evaluators on the use of the model.Monitor the implementation of the model to ensure consistency and fairness.Analyze data from the model to identify areas for improvement in teacher and administrator performance.Collective Bargaining: Participate in collective bargaining negotiations on behalf of the district.Develop and maintain positive relationships with employee unions.Implement the terms and conditions of negotiated agreements.State Testing: Oversee the administration of state assessments.Analyze state testing data to identify areas of strength and weakness.Develop and implement strategies to improve student performance on state assessments.Communicate assessment results to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.Family & Community Partnerships: Oversee the approval and monitoring of home school requests Oversee the district Truancy Officer and family compliance with truancy and residency mattersOversee the districts Volunteer in Schools process and approval listBudget Development for Teaching and Learning: Work collaboratively with the superintendent and business office to develop the district budget for teaching and learning.Allocate resources to schools and programs based on student needs and district priorities.Monitor and manage the budget to ensure efficient use of resources.Teacher Induction: Oversee the implementation of the district’s teacher induction program.Provide support and guidance to new teachers during their first year in the district.Monitor the progress of new teachers and recommend appropriate interventions as needed.Additional ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Superintendent will serve as Acting Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent unless otherwise determined by the Superintendent or School Committee. The Assistant Superintendent will complete all other assignments or tasks as determined by the Superintendent.Education and Experience: At least 5 years of experience as a teacher and 5 years of experience as a principal or instructional leader preferred Masters degree required; Doctorate or advanced degree preferredMust hold a Rhode Island Department of Education Certificate as a Superintendent of Schools By effectively managing these responsibilities, the Assistant Superintendent will play a vital role in driving the district’s success in achieving its strategic goals and improving student achievement, through relationships and embodying the reality that All Means All in East Greenwich Public Schools
