Geographically located in south-central British Columbia, School District 22 serves the communities of Vernon, Coldstream, Lavington, Lumby, and Cherryville, providing excellent educational services to a diverse group of students. We respectfully acknowledge that the district is located on the unceded, ancestral and contemporary lands of the Syilx Okanagan People. We serve learners from the Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB), as well as Métis, Inuit, and off-reserve First Nations students. We welcome a growing newcomer population and host approximately 250 international students annually.
SD22 offers a wide variety of educational programs including but not limited to French Immersion, opportunities for Trades Training and Secondary Apprenticeships, as well as numerous sports and specialty Academies. The district employs approximately 1,200 staff and operates on a budget of $140 million. We are home to over 9000 students; 19 schools, 14 Elementary schools, 5 Secondary schools, 1 district online learning school (vLearn), and 1 alternate program.
The Role:
School District 22 is seeking an exceptional and experienced senior leader to fill the role of Assistant Superintendent who will support the success of the Board of Education’s Strategic Priorities including Student Success, Leadership Excellence, and Community Connections.
Reporting to the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent supervises schools and provides support to Principals and Vice-Principals. This position oversees leadership development, equity initiatives, district procedures, community engagement, and specific programs such as the International Student Program and Early Learning and Child Care.
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in education, possess or be eligible for a teaching certificate in BC, have extensive successful K-12 leadership experience at the school and district level and have a strong understanding of the BC curriculum and evidence-informed instructional practices. Experience in Human Resources and working in a unionized environment is an asset.
