Responsibilities

THE ROLE

This is a hands-on Assistant position offering the opportunity to learn all aspects of surveying and contracts management within shopfitting and interiors. You will receive mentoring from senior surveyors and managers while supporting live projects from start to finish.
Based at our Colchester Office, this role is ideal for someone ambitious, detail-oriented, and eager to develop a career in Commercial shopfitting and project management. With structured support, you will gain experience in financial control, contracts administration, client liaison, and subcontract management, helping to protect the company’s interests and maintain Hutton Construction’s strong reputation in the industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (WITH TRAINING AND SUPPORT):

  • Study and understand contract documents, drawings, budgets, and programmes for new projects.
  • Drawing take offs, material ordering.
  • Help prepare interim valuations, agree variations, and ensure timely payments.
  • Support the preparation of final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Assist in subcontract procurement, document preparation, and payment checks.
  • Provide financial control information, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Attend site meetings to ensure the company’s contractual and financial interests are maintained.
  • Liaise with contracts managers, site managers, estimators, clients, and subcontractors.
