POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community though youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The assistant teacher at South Wood County YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while instructing children in accordance with goals, policies and procedures of both the state licensing and the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
  2. At least 18 years of age
  3. Staff Health History Exam is required by a licensed physician.
  4. Obtain Abusive Head Trauma Training prior to first day of work.
  5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  6. Child Abuse prevention/Mandated Reporter training prior to first day of work.
  7. Become a member of The Registry and maintain current status as required by Wisconsin State Licensing Laws.
  8. Obtain certificate of completion for the “Introduction to the Childcare Profession”
  9. Obtain certificate of completion for the “Fundamentals of the Infant & Toddler” (when working with children under age 2)
  10. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting required.
  11. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  12. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist with the implementation of daily plans and activities.
  2. Assist in supervising children and participate with children in activities.
  3. Maintain program site and equipment.
  4. Communicate with parents on an ongoing basis and assist with parent conferences.
  5. Assist with daily observations and child evaluations.
  6. Provide guidance for children’s behavior.
  7. Performs all other duties as assigned
