Description

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Department of Marine & Environmental Sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts (https://cos.northeastern.edu/marine-environmental-sciences/) invites applications from qualified candidates for a Full-time, Non-tenure Track Assistant Teaching Professor position to start in January 2026.
We seek broadly trained candidates with research and teaching experience in any field of terrestrial geosciences, including but not limited to geomorphology, earth surface processes, soil science, paleontology, and sedimentology. Candidates with the ability to teach courses in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and science communication, as well as those who can supervise capstone projects by leveraging prior experience and networks with government, industry or non-profit organizations to enhance experiential learning opportunities for students are strongly encouraged to apply. The chosen candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses that serve our undergraduate majors in Environmental and Sustainability Sciences as well as potential graduate courses for our MS degree in Environmental Science and Policy. Given the diversity of our curriculum, we seek candidates that can offer both day and evening courses, as well as online when necessary. The number of courses taught each year will be determined by the department chair. The standard workload is five courses or equivalents per year and service to the department, college and university.
Review of applications will begin on September 15, 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in earth and/or environmental sciences or another closely related discipline prior to the start of the appointment, experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in geosciences, as well as excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
