OVERVIEW

Praeluceo Group Ltd is seeking to appoint an Assistant to the Head of Finance in order to support the growth of several companies operating under the Praeluceo Group banner. This is an exciting opportunity for someone willing to learn and expand their skills and knowledge in a fast paced environment.
Praeluceo Group consists of a number of successful subsidiaries. These include Honeyman Group Ltd, a well-established pharmaceutical testing company based in Barnard Castle; Honeyman Water Ltd, a high-growth water purification systems installation and servicing business based in Shildon and Scenic Air Tours (North East) Ltd, a flight training academy based primarily at Teesside Airport with further operating bases in Humberside and South Yorkshire. Finance functions of all subsidiaries are undertaken by a small team based in Barnard Castle.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, it is expected that the successful applicant will eventually become responsible for the entire financial function of the Group as well as provide guidance and support to other areas of the business as required. As well as undertaking core accounting tasks, other specific duties include:

  • To assist in the preparation of management accounts on a monthly and annual basis, including the recording of intra-group transactions
  • To assist the production of consolidated financial statements on a monthly and annual basis
  • To prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with recognised accounting standards
  • To work closely with senior management teams in producing budgets and forecasts including cashflows accurately and on a timely basis
  • To prepare and submit all submissions to HMRC, Companies House, ONS and other regulatory bodies as necessary. This includes the accurate preparation and submission of PAYE, VAT and CT returns amongst others
  • To provide information and analyses to senior management on all facets of the businesses as requested
  • To be responsible for credit control and ensuring debts are collected on a timely basis
  • To assist and provide guidance on all group treasury functions
  • To assist on the running of payroll across all companies within the Group, together with compilation and submission of all returns to HMRC
  • To advise and assist in maintaining the Group’s HR modules, including updating and maintaining the employee database
  • To work alongside external advisors (financial, legal etc) and manage tax and audit requirements accordingly
  • To work with the Directors and the Head of Finance on strategic planning, including potential acquisitions
  • To keep abreast of all relevant legislative changes

REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant will:

  • Be part-qualified as a minimum with ICAEW, CACA, AAT or similar. They will be expected to complete their studies and gain full membership as a pre-cursor to advancement within the Group
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience working in a commercial environment
  • Exhibit strong proficiency in Sage 50 or similar packages
  • Have knowledge and experience in running payroll software
  • Be experienced in completing company secretarial requirements
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience in the use and development of Power BI would also be an advantage
  • Excellent organisational skills with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple priorities effectively

This pivotal role is a full-time, permanent position based on a 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday with additional hours as required. The ideal candidate must be able to work autonomously with a high degree of diligence and accuracy and be willing to partake in further training as required to assist the growth of both the Group and the individual. Although the role is based at our Barnard Castle headquarters, a valid driving licence must be maintained for this position as some occasional travel will be required.
Salary range = £31,000 to £34,000 depending upon qualification level and experience plus other benefits including contributory pension scheme, life assurance and healthcare scheme membership.
