Summary:
The Assistant Vice President for Inclusive Leadership and Learning (AVP) is a senior administrative position in the Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) reporting to the Vice President of Inclusive Excellence (VPIE). This critical position partners closely with key university offices and groups to provide strategic leadership for the oversight, implementation and ongoing evaluation of inclusive excellence and to advance a campus culture and climate where all community members experience a sense of belonging and satisfaction on the campus. The AVP serves as a campus wide leader in the development of the next phase of inclusive education (informative, engaging, preventative), leadership support and development, and strategy development and implementation that advances the mission and purpose of OIE.
Essential Functions:
1.) Leadership Support
- Reporting directly to the VPIE, the AVP will have leadership responsibility for high-level university wide initiatives and direct key aspects of institutional OIE accountability, strategic planning, leadership development and capacity building, and campus development in support of inclusive excellence.
- Represent the VPIE on university task forces, committees, working groups, and relevant external committees, programs, and events.
- Advise senior leadership regarding complex inclusive excellence trends, issues and priorities.
- Provide coordination on the university-wide accountability framework that promotes and ensures inclusive excellence across all dimensions of the mission and culture of AU.
2.) Campus Climate Action and Education
- Lead the Climate Action Response Team (CART), a cross-campus action-focused network that co-creates pathways forward to support campus climate through healing, trust-building, and learning.
- Directly addressing and responding to discrimination-based issues.
- In collaboration with Equity and Title IX, implement the next phase of leadership in an effort designed to respond to incidents related to bias.
- Integrating the principles of critical restorative action and responses to all forms of dehumanization and hate.
- Oversees the development and delivery of training programs for faculty, staff, and students on topics related to inclusive excellence.
- Craft well-developed and practical solutions to a wide range of complex issues affecting the university.
- Lead various ad-hoc committees and working groups to accomplish inclusive excellence goals and objectives.
3.) Strategy Coordination and Implementation
- In collaboration with VPIE, review and recommend revisions to institutional policies and procedures to ensure alignment with inclusive excellence framework.
- Lead the effort on collection, analyzing, and interpreting of data related to inclusive excellence to identify areas for improvement and measure progress.
- Fosters strong collaborative relationships with various departments, groups, and external organizations to support the framing and advancement of inclusive excellence.
- Provide leadership and engage collaboratively with other leaders to adopt strategies that foster education, awareness, and actions that promote an inclusive university.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- The AVP will oversee the Leadership and Learning Unit, which is charged with leading campus-wide education, enhancing understanding and action related to campus climate concerns, and advancing the impact of inclusive excellence at AU.
- The unit collaborates with schools, key campus units and organizations to provide promising approaches and framework, evaluate and report key trends and issues, and implement learning and strategies that support University needs, mission and values.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Full-Time.
- 35 hours per week.
Salary Range:
- $175,000 - $185,000 annually.
Required Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree.
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 10 years in student support, academic program management, organizational development, and/or inclusive excellence-related work.
- Proven experience managing employees, assigning tasks, and overseeing daily operations.
- Experience overseeing and leading organizational units (e.g., departments, centers, or institutes).
- Experience handling and resolving bias-related incidents involving students and employees in higher education.
- Skilled in planning, coordinating, and executing institutional programs and initiatives.
- Commitment to promoting and enhancing inclusive excellence within an organization.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and populations.
- Ability to work in highly confidential and sensitive environments with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in written communication.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
- Experience designing and facilitating training programs.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Travel Required:
- Willingness to travel as needed for institutional initiatives.
Other Duties:
- This unit will provide campus climate and progress related reports, coordinate and support unit and school-led inclusive excellence through appointed leaders and organizations and develop initiatives and activities that support and build community, belonging, access and opportunity. This unit’s work is in close collaboration and connection with Equity and Title IX to ensure associated incidents, climate related concerns, and reports associated with related policies (Title VI, Title IX, ADA) are supported throughout the education, learning, and supportive measures offered to campus to address trending climate concerns.
