Role Summary:
As Assistant Winemaker you will be in a close partnership with the Estate Winemaker helping to ensure that wine quality is maintained throughout all stages of the winemaking process. Excellent opportunity for a passionate individual to hone their winemaking skills while representing the Jackson Triggs brand at trade and media events when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the winemaker in managing production of wines and ensuring wine quality expectations are met.
  • Day to day cellar and winery management; support winemaker with writing, and distribution of work orders and updating cellar management system as required.
  • Schedule all required lab work, review and recommend follow up action with Winemaker
  • Management of winery supplies, components and other items as required · Attend trade and media events while speaking in front of consumers and industry peers
  • Assist in educational tastings and tours of the facility when needed

  • Ensure that all cellar staff are up to date with relevant safety certifications as required and schedule re-certifications as needed
  • Serves on committees associated with on-going Health & Safety improvement processes.
  • Recommend corrective actions for safety concerns brought forward from cellar staff in a timely manner

  • Manage all VQA wine submissions ensuring wine compliance is being met Schedule temp labor as required for mobile bottling line runs
  • Coordinate all incoming and outgoing shipments of bottling packaged goods and escalate any wine and packaging concerns
  • Work closely with National QA department to ensure standardization of QA process for bottling and wine analysis

  • Harvest Management – Oversee daily aspects of all harvest activities and functions that are critical to achieving the winemaking style and quality goals of the Winemaker
  • Leadership, supervision and coaching of seasonal harvest crew
  • Vineyard scouting and berry sampling leading up to and during harvest when time allows with Winemaker
  • Work closely with Lab Technician to ensure all critical harvest related lab equipment is calibrated leading up to harvest
  • Manage manpower schedule during harvest to ensure budgetary requirements are being met

Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

  • Post-Secondary Education or Equivalent
  • 2-3 Years’ Experience in a Medium to Large Winery
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills. ·
  • Able to organize and prioritize

Preferred:

  • Diploma or Degree in Winemaking
  • 2-3 Cellar of Winemaking supervisory experience
  • Valid G Drivers License
  • Valid Forklift Operator Certificate an Asset

Working Conditions:

  • Occasionally required to lift materials or equipment.
  • Regularly need to give close attention, either hearing or seeing, to what is happening.
  • There is continuous pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy, or similar demands.
  • Moderate disruption of family/social life.
  • Occasional weekend work is mandatory especially during harvest

Compensation: Budgeted Range – ($59,738.00-$77,308.00) the budgeted range takes into account several factors and qualifications that are considered in making compensation decisions including experience, education, training, licenses, certifications, and other business and organizational requirements. Base pay is only one component of the total rewards offering at Arterra.
