Position Summary: This position is responsible for the following:

  • Educate blind and visually impaired clients in Computer and Assistive Technology
  • Supports the computer technology lab
  • Supports the computer instructors in keeping up-to-date with programs, new developing technologies and innovative teaching techniques
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistive Technology Program clients
  • Works with LOC programs and staff

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Blindness related field or 2 years of experience working with individual who are blind and visually impaired teaching or training individuals with visual impairments in assistive/adaptive technology
  • A Master’s Degree in Blindness related field or 5 years of experience working with individual who are blind and visually impaired teaching or training individuals with visual impairments in assistive/adaptive technology a plus
  • Experience working in a rehabilitation, nonprofit, or educational setting preferred
  • Certification in assistive technology (e.g., CATIS) or willingness to obtain is a plus
  • State Certifications for Magnification and Screen Readers

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, screen readers (e.g., JAWS), magnification software (e.g., ZoomText), and mobile accessibility tools (e.g., VoiceOver)
  • Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot software and hardware independently or in collaboration with IT support
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, client databases (e.g., AWARE), and adaptive devices such as braille displays and refreshable keyboards
  • Spanish speaking a plus

  • Assist with scheduling, client communications, and coordination of services as needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
