Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is hiring for an Associate Aerospace Technician (Fabrication Specialist- Level B). These positions are with the SLS Core Stage and are based at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Willingness to work in variable shift; including days, evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Experience working in a dynamic and confined space for prolonged periods of time.
  • More than 1 year of experience or training in reading and interpreting drawings or blueprints.
  • More than 1 year of experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Previous experience with NASA Program and/or other aerospace customers
  • Manufacturing experience in human spaceflight, spaceflight, or aircraft hardware
  • Experience in installation and handling of tubes, valves, fittings
  • Experience on human-rated spacecraft hardware
  • Experience in a clean room environment
  • Experience in Structural assembly with an emphasis on match drilling aluminum, titanium, and composite materials
  • Experience with tubing and ducting installation
Responsibilities
  • Performs machine set-up, machining, welding set-up, welding, sheet metal fabrication and extrusion, tube bending and fabrication tasks.
  • Performs composite lay-up, fabrication and assembly tasks.
  • Assembles precision mechanical and electro-mechanical components.
  • Assembles, repairs, modifies and installs various power plants and drive trains.
  • Perform soldering on electronic and avionics products.
  • Assembles and installs wire harnesses and avionics products.
  • Prepares test articles, fixtures and data collection devices to perform various tests.
  • Performs basic organic chemical conversion and paint preparation.
  • Applies routine organic coatings for corrosion protection and appearance requirements.
  • Works on articles of limited complexity following established drawings and requirements.
